Great Fundy Coastal Cleanup on Ross Island, Grand Manan

Volunteers are recommended to take the 9:30am ferry to Grand Manan (for more info, please visit https://grandmanan.coastaltransport.ca/schedule.html)

From Grand Manan, volunteers will travel to the wharf pick-up location for boat transportation to Ross Island. You will be cleaning up on the island from approx. 12:30pm to 4:30pm (more information provided upon registration and in advance of the cleanup).

To allow time to travel from Ross Island back to the ferry terminal, we recommend planning your return on the 7:15pm ferry.

The Keiko & Errol Nature Preserve on Ross Island is composed of rocky shoreline, coastal forest, and wetlands, positioned off of Ingalls Head, Grand Manan Island, New Brunswick.

The Keiko & Errol Nature Preserve on Ross Island is part of an Ecologically and Biologically Significant Area with essential habitats home to several rare and uncommon plant species such as seaside ragwort, ghost antler lichen, and estuary sedge. This preserve is also part of the Grand Manan Archipelago Important Bird Area as it is home to rare birds including the red-breasted merganser, great cormorant, red knot, and semipalmated sandpiper.

At this cleanup, teams will work together to identify and remove debris along the shorelines of the preserve. Participants should be prepared for travel by boat, collecting garbage, and some bushwhacking.

More details will be circulated to participants upon registration and in advance of the cleanup event.

 

This is an outdoor event so please dress according to the weather.

- Closed toes shoes or rainboots

- Appropriate clothing for weather

- Bug spray and/or bug net

- Work gloves (optional)
