Brave the cold and uncover the beauty of winter on our nature preserves!
Snow-dusted trees, crisp air, and serene landscapes await those who bundle up and head outdoors. Whether you're a seasoned winter hiker or trying it for the first time, our trails offer a magical escape into nature.
Did you know? Our public trails span an impressive 60 km across 26 preserves! That’s a lot of ground to explore this winter, with something for everyone, from leisurely walks to invigorating hikes.
Winter hiking is a special way to connect with nature, offering a peaceful ambiance that's hard to find in other seasons. To make the most of your adventure, follow these essential tips:
Winter Hiking Tips
Dress Smart: Layer up to stay warm and dry, starting with a moisture-wicking base layer, an insulating middle layer, and a weatherproof outer layer.
Footwear Matters: Choose sturdy, insulated boots with good grip to tackle snowy or icy trails confidently.
Stay Hydrated: Pack water and energizing snacks – hydration is just as important in winter!
Gear Up: Trekking poles or snowshoes can help with stability and make snowy trails easier to navigate.
Plan Ahead: Always map out your route, and keep an eye on daylight hours to ensure a safe return.
Grab your gear, gather your friends or family, and immerse yourself in the season’s beauty.
