TOM BECKLEY
VICE PRESIDENT
Dr. Tom Beckley is a professor in the Faculty of Forestry and Environmental Management at the University of New Brunswick. He has been working in the field of environment and natural resource sociology in Canada since 1993.
His PhD in Sociology and his Masters degree in Rural Sociology are both from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (USA). Dr. Beckley’s research topics include: Social problems and issues in forest dependent communities, public participation in resource management and policy, community capacity, sustainability and adaptability, determinants of pro-environmental values and behaviour, forest landowner management and stewardship, and sociological aspects of energy, energy literacy, and climate change.
Outside of his professional work, Tom is an avid gardener and active land manager of 120 acres in Keswick Ridge. He and his partner try to grow much of their own food and are actively working to make their forest land resilient to changes that will be brought about by climate change. Tom has been a member of his Local Service District Advisory Committee for over 10 years and is interested in issues of rural, local government and governance.
