The Noremac Nature Preserve is within traditional Wabanaki territory. The preserve was donated in 2019 by Marion Cameron to keep this land protected in perpetuity.

Ecology

Old growth Acadian forest is the key feature of the Noremac Nature Preserve. This forest type provides diverse wildlife. Wildlife such as flying squirrels, lynx, and barred owls depend on old growth forest habitat to survive.

The forest is dominated by mature to over-mature softwood stands (white cedar, red spruce, balsam fir, white pine), and a few hardwood stands (red maple and white birch). Limestone is also a significant ecological feature on the property.

Access and Activities

To reach the Noremac Nature Preserve trail, from highway 177 Martinon Bypass take Acamac Backland Road for 1.6 km to the parking area at the end of the road (right by the big Grand Bay-Westfield sign on the adjacent highway 7).  From there walk the old woods road approximately 430 metres to the trailhead.

*The property is undeveloped and there are a variety of hazards and risks associated with accessing this preserve. While this nature preserve is open for public access, visitors must assume responsibility for their own actions and safety and are to use the land at their own risk.
